Roxy Last Dance

Roxy will close its doors forever, according to John Blair's website, the building that has housed Roxy will be torn down shortly after their last party tonight, March 10th, 2007.

The Roxy is the very definition of a gay institution, a mass of grit, glamour, sweat and drama set to the beats of world-class DJs. It's an essential stop for any gay tourists in New York. More than just a temple to muscle gods and the men who love them, for over two decades the space has packed in thousands of dance supplicants.

With the addition of long-time promoter John Blair in 1991, the gay-ification of Chelsea and a new emphasis on gym bodies, Roxy grew over the next 16 years into the crowning jewel of the Chelsea-boy set it is today. A veritable who's who of international DJs has taken to the decks including Victor Calderone, Peter Rauhofer, Junior Vasquez, Tony Moran, Hex Hector, Eddie Elias, Merritt, Chris Cox, Max Rodriguez, Chad Jack, Billy Carroll, Danny Tenaglia, Manny Lehman, Jonathan Peters and Frankie Knuckles. Cher, Bette Midler and Beyonc้ have performed live, and Madonna twice - once for Ray of Light and most recently for Confessions on a Dance Floor.

I have been to NYC twice and both times Roxy was my must visiting destination. This immense NYC nightclub packed with shirtless boys enjoying dance music all night long. Hot go-gos, the hugest dance floor you may ever see, and plenty of places to steal away for a conversation. Roxy, you'll surely be missed.
