James Gleeson is recognised as one of Australia leading and most important surrealists. Created during the 1960’s and 70’s, the series of small paintings feature homoerotic themes and depict his distinctive imagery using the male nudes, combines the percussor to the 'psychoscape'. These little paintings exude an almost prophetic atmosphere of ethereal light, a sort of 'and God created Man' statement. It's the first time these rare works are being shown as a collection at Wagner Art Gallery in Paddington, Sydney, May 26 - June 21.
