Australian musicians will be first to take the stage in the seven Live Earth shows, a series of 7 international concerts as part of a climate change awareness campaign. The event, which is aimed at prompting governments and business to help reduce carbon emissions, will be held over 24 hours and watched by an audience estimated at two billion people. The Live Earth project is the brainchild of humanitarian concert organiser Kevin Wall and former US Vice-President Al Gore.
The Sydney Live Earth will be held at Sydney's Aussie Stadium on July 7. The other cities hosting the concerts are New York, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Johannesburg. Crowded House and Missy Higgins would perform on the event alongside Toni Collette with her band The Finish, Rob Hirst and Ghostwriters, Jack Johnson, The John Butler Trio, Wolfmother, Eskimo Joe, Paul Kelly, Sneaky Sound System and Melbourne band King Brown.
Tickets are $99 and go on sale next Friday, May 18, with proceeds going to Australian organisations combating climate change. [Source]
