Russia wins Eurovision

Russia won the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Belgrade, Serbia today.
The winning entry, an impassioned rock ballad "Believe", sung by Dima Bilan, a Russian-style Enrique Iglesias, was a bookies' favourite beating 24 contestants to clinch his country's first victory.

The Eurovision this year was just incredibly bad. We used to joke about Greece and Cyprus always giving each other top points. But now with the arrival of Eastern Europe, it has all gone beyond a joke. There are about 60 countries competing, most of which I could not find on an atlas. The Balkans vote for the Balkans, the Baltics for the Baltics, the Nordics for the Nordics. The United Kingdom came close to bottom last night, as all of the ethnic cleansing countries in Eastern Europe didn't like Britain having a Black singer. In the end Russia won. In Serbia. Payback for Russia vetoing United Nations action against Serbia in th e1990's. The Eurovision is dead. Past winners Italy and Luxembourg have already withdrawn. Legendary UK commentator Terry Wogan says he is so fed up with it that he doesn't want to cover another contest. It's just such a shame.
